Concert #3 - November 22, 2008
The Claremont Trio
at the Lucas Theatre
Formed at the Juilliard School in 1999 by
twin sisters Emily and Julia Bruskin and pianist Donna Kwong, the Claremont Trio combines a mastery of the standard repertoire with a commitment to
commissioning works by contemporary composers. They are based in
New York City near their namesake: Claremont Avenue.

Concert #4 - January 10, 2009
Helen Huang - Pianist
at the Lucas Theatre
Pianist Helen Huang was born in Japan in 1982 to Chinese parents. She
moved to the U.S. in 1985 and began studying piano two years later. She
was performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra by the time she was
eight. A protégé of conductor Kurt Masur, she made her debut recording
of Mozart and Beethoven concertos with the New York Philharmonic at
age twelve and accompanied the orchestra on a 1998 tour of Asia. The
recipient of the Artur Rubinstein prize when she graduated from the
Juilliard School in 2004, she is currently studying with Peter Frankl and pursuing a master’s degree from Yale.

Concert #5 - February 2, 2009
Charles Wadsworth & Friends - 80th Birthday Tribute to Charles Wadsworth
at the Lucas Theater
Charles Wadsworth, the founder of the
Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
and the host of the chamber music concerts at the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC,
for many years, has also been the host of
several of our concerts in the previous four
years. To help him celebrate his eightieth
birthday in May, we are presenting a special gala concert with the St. Lawrence String
Quartet.

Concert #6 - April 11, 2009
Hilton Head International Piano Competition Winner
at the Lucas Theatre
Once again, for our final concert we will be presenting the winner of the
most recent Hilton Head International Piano Competition. The pianist will
present a solo recital in the first half of the concert, and after the intermission
will be joined by members of the Forsyth Ensemble for a work from
the standard chamber music repertoire. Along with pianist Ran Dank, the
group performed the Schubert "Trout" quintet at the last concert of the
2007-8 season to great acclaim. Violinist Terry Moore, his wife cellist Sarah
Schenkman, and violist Gretchen Frazier are members of the Hilton Head
Orchestra and the Savannah Sinfonietta. Mr. Moore is the concert master
of both orchestras.

Mendelssohn String Quartet
at the Lucas Theatre
Mendelsson String Quartet has established a reputation as one of the most imaginative, vital and exciting quartets of its generation. The Quartet tours annually throughout North America with regular trips to foreign destinations. They will provide the first concert of the 2008-2009 season.

Concert #2 - Saturday, October 18, 2008
Marina Lomazov, pianist
Joseph Rackers, pianist
at the Lucas Theatre
Marina Lomazov, pianist in residence at the University of
South Carolina, along with her husband Joseph Rackers, will
perform a four-hand piano recital. The featured work will be
a four-hand version of Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring".
