Savannah's rich musical history goes back to its founding in 1733, when General Oglethorpe arrived with a fife and drum corps. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the city had numerous concerts each year featuring local and visiting talent. From 1953 to 2003, it had its own much admired Savannah Symphony. This tradition inspires the Savannah Concert Association to present top-rated musicians performing great masterworks.
